Hi there fellow Open Educators,
This sounds like a great search engine for open resources. Give it a tray and let us know how things go.
Cheers,

Hello all,
Milne Library at SUNY Geneseo is excited to share with you an OER search tool that we have developed called OASIS<https://oasis.geneseo.edu/> (Openly Available Sources Integrated Search). We have gathered more than 155,000+ records from 52 different sources that have been carefully selected in collaboration with SUNY OER Services. With OER becoming more prevalent, and hearing from our faculty that the discovery of OER can be quite difficult, we developed OASIS with the goal of making the discovery of open content easier. Some of the features of OASIS include the ability to limit search results by license, type, subject, source, and reviews available. Through OASIS, you can also suggest new sources to be added to the catalog and/or share items of interest through email. We also created a search widget<https://oasis.geneseo.edu/about.php> that can be embedded in any website. If you decide to use the search widget on your website we would love to know.
Here is the link to the press release for OASIS<https://www.geneseo.edu/news/milne-library-colleagues-launch-oasis> from SUNY Geneseo.
Please share any feedback that you may have with Bill Jones (jonesw(a)geneseo.edu<mailto:jonesw@geneseo.edu>) and Ben Rawlins (rawlins(a)geneseo.edu<mailto:rawlins@geneseo.edu>). Thanks.
Hi there fellow open educators,
Not sure how many of you are in the Trades, but I thought I’d share this note anyway. May be useful to some of you. Or if you know anyone that teaches in the trades and is looking for Math resources, please feel free to share.
Cheers,
Rosario

Subject: Math for Manufacturing
A couple of months ago, many of you helped me find and contact the author of a Math for Manufacturing Student Workbook that was out there on the web, unloved and unclaimed. Since then, I have corresponded with the author who was happy to re-license the book and share it with everyone. I will be putting it up on OER Commons, but wanted to let you all be the first to see it and put it to use. This folder <https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TOTPyr-oz4j72QFSvVI4G_V-zhB7Oais> contains both pdf and docx versions of the student workbook, a pre-test, a post-test, and several answer keys. I hope this was not too late for those of you helping your trades faculty this summer!
Pretty excited about this! I welcome any and all feedback!
Tina

Hi there fellow open educators,
Although this situation happened last year and some of you may already be aware of the work that UBC has done to link tenure to the utilization of open educational practices, this article is nicely done:

Subject: Catching up: Open Education and the Equity Gap
Dear Community,
We’ve had a couple of great updates on this important topic in the last two weeks that you won’t want to miss. First two are the newest CCCOER guest blog posts and the last one is a peer-reviewed article from the International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
* Hurry Up and Slow Down: Indigenization and OER with Rose Roberts and Heather Ross<https://www.cccoer.org/2018/06/28/on-equity-diversity-inclusion-and-open-ed…>
The intersection between OER and Indigenization is a new area within academia. OER is about opening up the world of knowledge to as many people as possible. Indigenization is about opening up the world of Indigenous reality to as many people as possible. The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) has identified Indigenization as one of its 4 pillars in its Institutional Strategic Framework. As an Indigenous person (Rose) who has worked within a western based educational institution for most of my work life, virtually everything that I do is indigenization. However, Indigenization as an academic institutional endeavor is a new phenomenon, and because it is relatively new, we are in many ways continuing to figure out what it is and how to go about it in a good way.
* Reaching Underserved Students through Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning<https://www.cccoer.org/2018/06/28/on-equity-diversity-inclusion-and-open-ed…>
Last month I was fortunate to hear Dr. J Luke Wood’s<http://onlineteachingconference.org/speaker/j-luke-wood-ph-d/> opening keynote, Reaching Underserved Students through Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning in the Online Environment, at the annual California Online Teaching Conference<http://onlineteachingconference.org/>. Wood’s research at San Diego State University focuses on factors affecting the success of boys and men of color in education, with a specific focus on community colleges. He co-directs the Community College Equity Assessment Lab (CCEAL),<https://cceal.org/about-cceal/> a national research and practice center at San Diego State University.
• The Impact of Open Educational Resources on Various Student Success Metrics (Intl. Journal of T&L in Higher Ed)<http://www.isetl.org/ijtlhe/pdf/IJTLHE3386.pdf>
This article reports the results of a large-scale study (21,822 students) from University of Georgia regarding the impact of course-level faculty adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER). Results indicate that OER adoption does much more than simply save students money and address student debt concerns. OER improve end-of-course grades and decrease DFW (D, F, and Withdrawal letter grades) rates for all students. They also improve course grades at greater rates and decrease DFW rates at greater rates for Pell recipient students, part-time students, and populations historically underserved by higher education. OER address affordability, completion, attainment gap concerns, and learning. These findings contribute to a broadening perception of the value of OERs and their relevance to the great challenges facing higher education today.
Enjoy,
Una

Hi there fellow Open Educators,
This new study<http://www.isetl.org/ijtlhe/pdf/IJTLHE3386.pdf> published by researchers Nicholas Colvard of the University of Georgia and Eddie Watson of the Association of American Colleges and Universities in the International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education is a large-scale study looking at the impact of OER adoption on student success measures at the University of Georgia. The study is significant because it looks specifically at the impact on historically underserved populations of students, addressing part-time status and ethnic origin among other variables.
This study illustrates the reason why Open is important beyond affordability. The movement for OER is not just about reducing costs, it's about helping to make higher education more equitable and effective for all students.
Here is the abstract for your review:
The Impact of Open Educational Resources on Various Student Success Metrics
There are multiple indicators which suggest that completion, quality, and affordability are the three greatest challenges for higher education today in terms of students, student learning, and student success. Many colleges, universities, and state systems are seeking to adopt a portfolio of solutions that address these challenges. This article reports the results of a large-scale study (21,822 students) regarding the impact of course-level faculty adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER). Dear Faculty and Staff,
BCcampus Open Education is reaching out to all faculty members and staff involved in the teaching and support of anatomy and healthcare post-secondary curricula in B.C. in response to a request from the [ http://www.oeconsortium.org/ | Open Education Consortium ] to identify individuals interested in collaborating on a project that would involve the co-creation of an open anatomical atlas of anatomy images.
Background
Anatomy is a basic discipline for all medical and paramedical fields around the world. Anatomical illustrations are essential for the teaching and learning of anatomy and are universally relevant in all countries. Good quality artist-created anatomical drawings are available in anatomical atlases and textbooks but are mostly copyrighted. There are very few good quality anatomical images available under an open license.
If you think this is a good idea and want to participate in the creation and implementation of an open anatomical atlas, please respond to this email by July 15. A response to this email does not commit you to anything, it merely indicates an interest in this project.
On behalf of all interested parties that reply to this email, and as a member of the Open Education Consortium, BCcampus Open Education will submit a form expressing interest.
Regards,
The BCcampus OpenEd team

Hello Everyone,
We have just published the date (October 3) for the next [ https://open.bccampus.ca/pressbooks-training-webinar/ | Pressbooks Training webinars ] . These sessions are open to all B.C. faculty and staff.
In addition to the Introduction session, we will also be offering a third more advanced session: Intermediate 3 which will talk about how and when to cite and attribute elements for authors working on open textbooks in Pressbooks, along with where to find openly licensed resources. This intermediate session is the third in a series that we're developing on issues beyond introductory topics.
For faculty and staff who do not have experience using Pressbooks, it is strongly recommended that they take the Introduction webinar before the Intermediate. These two webinars are conveniently scheduled so they can be taken on the same day.
For more information and to register, please see: [ https://open.bccampus.ca/pressbooks-training-webinar/ | https://open.bccampus.ca/pressbooks-training-webinar/ ]

Great news!!
The BCcampus Open Education [ https://opentextbc.ca/accessibilitytoolkit/ | Accessibility Toolkit ] has been revised and updated. Most significantly, this version includes step-by-step instructions on how to meet web accessibility guidelines when authoring books in Pressbooks. A full list of changes can be found in the [ https://opentextbc.ca/accessibilitytoolkit/back-matter/versioning-history/ | Versioning History ] page.
Special thanks to Josie Gray for leading this initiative and keeping the Accessibility Toolkit up to date and with the latest information.
