This new textbook, published by the Rebus Community, is designed for students in graduate-level nursing and education programs. Its intent is to recognize the significant role the literature review plays in the research process and to prepare students for the work that goes into writing one.

This collection of original source readings by philosophers who originated many of the issues we discuss today was written by TRU faculty member Jeff McLaughlin and was produced with funds from a BCcampus Open Education OER Grant. Major areas of philosophy covered are Ethics, Epistemology, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, Socio-Political Philosophy, and Aesthetics.

This unique open course which is the result of a collaboration between seven colleges and BCcampus Open Education, and funded in part by an OER Grant. Three file formats are provided (D2L, Moodle, Common Cartridge) so the course can be downloaded into a learning management system.

Business math is the study of mathematics required by the field of business. This textbook covers taxes, gross earnings, product prices, and currency exchange; loans, lines of credit, mortgages, leases, savings bonds, and other financial tools. It also discusses how to execute smart monetary decisions both personally and for their business.
There are two versions for this book: The "Basic Edition" and the "Premium Edition." While they cover the same content, the Premium Edition includes additional features such as Excel integration, Excel templates, Excel screenshots, along with lots of extra visuals and graphics to help student wrap their heads around the numbers, procedures, and concepts that they work with. The Basic Edition does not include Excel and those extra visuals and graphics in order to streamline the book.

There's a terrific open course by the Scotland OEPS/Open University UK team called "Becoming an Open Educator" it's self-directed but you could design your own community of practice cohort. It's a great introduction for those that are new to OER and OEP (Open Educational Practices). The Introduction to Open Education edX course was a bit of a disappointment in terms of content and learning (in my opinion). It wasn't well facilitated and the community, in terms of discussion within and outside of the course, was not very engaged.
CC is still fine tuning their training. We here in Ontario are keeping an eye on the opportunities with that and would be glad to collaborate with anything in the region that gets underway!

Of course, I also think it would be great! If we're all doing similar work, why not put it in the same place? (Can you tell I'm a librarian?)
In leading the OER initiative at Bay Path without a grant to jump-start things, it's become important to demonstrate the successes of OER at other institutions to help with buy-in from faculty and administrators. It would be a lot of work, but very worthwhile, I think.

Happy Monday? This is just a reminder that CCCOER will have the third webinar in our Fall Back-to-Basics series this Wednesday, November 15th, at 11 am PST/ 2 pm EST. This month's free and open webinar is, "How OER Can Student Equity and Diversity." We will hear from three speakers who will tell us how open education resources, policies, and practices can create equitable learning experiences for all students through the development of culturally relevant learning experiences.

According to the Glossary of Education Reform, equity refers to the principle of fairness in education. Inequities occur when biased or unfair policies, programs, practices, or situations contribute to a lack of equality in educational performance, results, and outcomes. The development and use of open educational resources has the potential to create equitable learning experiences for all students. Open education is deeply rooted in the belief that teachers have the freedom to develop content that meets the needs of their students.
Join us for this webinar to hear the ways in which colleges can consider issues of equity when designing and delivering OER courses and degree programs. Presenters will share how open educational resources, policies, and practices can support equity and diversity through the development of culturally relevant learning experiences that emphasize inclusion and celebrate diversity.
