Call for Interest: United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Open Pedagogy Fellowship
Attn: BC Institutions of Higher Education
Are you interested in galvanizing support for Open Pedagogy at your institution?
Kwantlen Polytechnic University is looking for an institutional partner to join and grow an innovative, international, inter-institutional, inter-disciplinary Open Pedagogy Fellowship. Join KPU along with founding members at Montgomery Community College (Maryland, USA) as well as Maricopa Community Colleges (Arizona, USA) along with new partners in 2021 to help achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals<https://sdgs.un.org/goals> (SDGs) through student assignments!
This award-winning fellowship<https://awards.oeglobal.org/awards/2020/open-pedagogy/united-nations-sustai…> provides faculty with an opportunity to work with their colleagues and students to impact change through open pedagogy and community engagement. The conceptual framework for this fellowship is directed by the UN SDGs, which is a set of 17 goals that address a wide range of social issues, such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and peace and justice. The SDGs are designed to achieve and maintain social justice and a sustainable future, with a target of the year 2030 set for the attainment of each goal.
In this fellowship, faculty will design renewable assignments that make progress toward accomplishing at least one SDG and help students become agents of change in their own communities.
At this time, KPU is looking for an institutional partner in British Columbia, and unfortunately, cannot support lone faculty members.
Institutional commitment will involve the following:
* Promoting the fellowship opportunity including putting out and managing a call for fellows
* Adjudicating fellowship applications
* Participating in the planning and facilitation of workshops and other training to support fellows
* Co-organizing a faculty-student showcase
If interested, please provide an expression of interest to open(a)kpu.ca<mailto:open@kpu.ca> by Friday, February 26, 2021 including the names and contact information for those who will join the leadership committee and a brief statement:
* confirming your intention to join the 2021 UN SDG Open Pedagogy Fellowship with institutional support and capacity
* outlining your institution’s current engagement with open pedagogy
* describing how the fellowship might help the stakeholders at your institution and how your institution might enrich the fellowship

Dear colleagues,
As publishers provide students and faculty with temporary free access to learning materials during the COVID-19 crisis, concerns have been raised about access and time limitations associated with the offers. Working with members of the library community, SPARC has developed the following template that can be used to communicate with publishers about the restrictions<https://sparcopen.org/sparc-crafts-language-in-response-to-covid-19-publish…>.
Please share with anyone who may find this helpful.

Dear colleagues,
Open Education for a Better World<https://oe4bw.org/> (OE4BW) is a tuition-free international online mentoring program, designed to help unlock the potential of open education in achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program facilitates mentorships in which a recognized mentor guides a mentee through the process of creating their own OER.
Today is the last day to submit an application to be either a mentor or an OER developer in the 2021 program, which will run from January to July 2021. According to the application form, "The program is open to all candidates with a concrete idea, clear motivation and strong commitment to develop and deliver an open online course or other large-scale open resource (e.g., an open textbook) aligned with the SDGs."
Submit an application for OE4BW<https://oe4bw.org/application/> by November 30, 2020.
