Tuition wasn't charged for the pilot, so I'm sorry to hear that the cost might be a bit of a barrier to participation. I can check to see if SPARC will offer any scholarships or grants for next year's program and report back. Overall, my experience has been very positive. Most of my fellow cohort members were either new librarians or librarians with new open education-related responsibilities (such as myself). I found the program to be a timely opportunity to review, reflect and dig in a bit deeper when it comes to developing foundational knowledge about OER. And also a really unique opportunity to develop a capstone project aimed at advancing an open education initiative here at my own campus. The cohort model was also a really excellent way to build a supportive network in this area and to learn within a community of librarians with very diverse roles, backgrounds and areas of expertise. During the fall semester, I'd say the workload was probably around 5-8 hours per week including course readings, discussion posts, weekly blog posts, and sometimes an additional assignment as well. The workload this spring semester has been a bit lighter, though, as we're working fairly independently on our capstone projects with monthly cohort check-ins as well as ongoing support from a mentor. I know there may be adjustments to the program for the next round, but hopefully this gives you a rough idea about what to expect. I have say I was disappointed when I saw the price. Douglas College is not a SPARC member so with the exchange rate, the cost for me would be around $5,360 - plus going to the Open Ed Conference would probably be at least another $2,000. I get $600 a year for my PD. Hope, I know you were part of the beta group. Would you give us a sense of how much work it involved and what you got out of the experience? They indicate the hours per week on the announcement but is 8 hours a week accurate? Funding and arrangements are the responsibility of each institution. * Time Commitment: The program runs September 24 through May 2018 with a one-month winter break.
