Subject: Creating a Library Presence in Canvas
Hi all,
I wanted to share this great resource for creating a Library Presence in Canvas. Please share with your librarians.
Creating a Library Presence in Canvas
As California community colleges adopt the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) as part of the state’s Online Education Initiative, librarians have new opportunities to bring library research and information literacy instruction into the online environment. Sponsored by the Council of Chief Librarians, Erin Daniels and Phyllis Usina, librarians at Santa Rosa Junior College, have prepared a guide that identifies ways in which commonly available library services, resources, and programs can be integrated into Canvas. Called, Creating a Library Presence in Canvas , this guide contains features that can be implemented at different levels of the Canvas LMS, including System-wide, Global Navigation, Course Navigation, Module Level, or Page Level.
In addition, the authors created digital examples of those resources that lent themselves to replication by preparing a public Canvas course. Librarians are encouraged to visit the public course to see these examples for potential adaptation, and to download a copy of the 41-page guide.
Find the guide and sample resources in this public Canvas course: https://canvas.santarosa.edu/courses/19390
Special thanks to Erin Daniels and Phyllis Usina for this helpful resource.

Hi all,
Doe anyone know of any statistics on Fair Dealing? David Porter was wondering the following:
"Anybody have any stats on fair dealing? That is, how many faculty or instructors make use of the provisions. Library data? Doesn’t some university have an app that automatically captures that kind of data from faculty members submissions and requests for evaluation of fair dealing amounts permissible in Canada?"
If you know of any data, please let me know.

> Greetings,
> The final version of the Florida’s 2016 Student Textbook and Course Material Survey (PDF) <https://dlss.flvc.org/documents/210036/361552/2016+Student+Textbook+Survey.…> is now available. This survey is the third in a series of surveys from 2010 through 2016 that shed light on the impact high textbook costs are having on college affordability, student actions to address cost, as well as college success and completion. In 2016 alone, more than 22,000 students from all of Florida’s public colleges and universities voluntarily participated in the anonymous online survey.
> You may also find the recently completed 2016 Action Plan for Building a Statewide Infrastructure to Support Open Educational Resources in Florida's Public Institutions of Higher Education (PDF) <https://dlss.flvc.org/documents/210036/361552/FinalOATERReport9_21_16.pdf/1…> of interest. The report identified recommendations for how the state could work toward building partnerships and a statewide infrastructure to support the use of OER. There are three parts to the report:
> 1) Review of national and international OER projects and organizations, with recommendations drawn from these sources
> 2) Recommendations for FLVC on establishing a statewide OER support infrastructure.
> 3) Results of the statewide survey of librarians, instructional design staff, and teaching faculty, and made suggests additional steps for moving forward based upon those results.

Hi there everyone,
If you have created any OER, you may be interested in participating in the Creative Commons call for submissions (information follows):
>From Creative Commons:
Since 2014, CC has published an annual State of the Commons report that tracks the growth of CC-licensed content on the web. Last year, we reported a milestone of 1 billion CC-licensed works in the commons . This year, we are shifting our reporting focus to align with our new strategy .
We are opening a public call for submissions of commons content, its creators, and the creative uses that have resulted.
The submission form is below and asks for the relevant details we need to start visualizing an impactful statistic tied to real use. Strong submissions include all three features of the Creative Commons story: 1) the creator/entity and the choice to openly license, 2) the user and the act of adapting and remixing, and 3) the resulting positive impact for a broader public.
