Dear Pressbooks User,
As a Pressbooks account holder in pressbooks.bccampus.ca, you
have been placed on a mailing list to receive notifications about upgrades, service outages, and other events that affect your Pressbooks account. This notice will also apply to open textbooks that are hosted in BCcampus' internal instance of Pressbooks (opentextbc.ca).
UPGRADE NOTICE
On November 26, 2020,
from 7am to 10am PST, Pressbooks
(pressbooks.bccampus.ca)
will be upgraded to version 5.17.2. You
will not be able to log in to Pressbooks during this time.
Changes:
-
Shape
Shifter Feature: When using the McLuhan theme, you can select a specific font for headers and body text. You can select different fonts for the webbook, PDF exports, and eBook
exports.
-
New fonts and type faces: New
Athena Unicode (characters for English and Western European languages, polytonic Greek, Coptic, Old
Italic, and Demotic Egyptian transliteration and more) and BravuraText (Musical
notation).
-
Pressbook Directory (beta):
The Pressbooks Directory is a new tool to explore and search for all resources published in Pressbooks (not just in BC). This tool will include all books that are listed as public, and once we update Pressbooks, all public books in pressbooks.bccampus.ca and
opentextbc.ca will be listed and findable in this directory.
If your book is public but you do not want it to be included in the directory, you will need to change the Sharing and Privacy Settings the book after the update goes live. You can do this
by going to the book’s dashboard and then Settings > Sharing and Privacy Settings. If your Book Visibility is set to “Private”, then your book will not be included in the Pressbooks Directory, no matter what the Pressbooks Directory setting is. If your Book
Visibility is set to “Public” and you wish to opt-out of Pressbooks Directory, select “No. Exclude this book from the Pressbooks directory.”
We are thoroughly testing the updated Pressbooks prior
to the release and these improvements should not cause any issues with your existing books. But, if anything does come up, let us know right away at support@bccampus.ca.
