Hi all,
This is a friendly invitation to stop by the Surrey Campus Library on Sept 18 (between
11-3) to join in on our Science Literacy Week BC Wikipedia edit-a-thon. No experience
necessary. We have partnered with several other BC post-secondary libraries, and have
received generous support from BCcampus.

We would especially like to welcome those faculty curious about the possibilities of
incorporating Wikipedia writing/editing into their classroom activities and assignments.
Learning how to write content and edit Wikipedia provides students with practical
experience in critically evaluating information, assessing authority in context, and
exploring issues around copyright and open access.
The edit-a-thon will be a preliminary chance to get familiar with the editing interface
and some of the basic Wikipedia writing guidelines of verifiability and neutrality. Along
with the Teaching and Learning Commons, we are in the early planning stages of hosting a
second, more targeted workshop to support faculty, later this semester. Stay tuned for
details!
Any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Best
Celia
