Absolutely fantastic. And testament to the student centeredness of KPU. Thank you Rajiv for leading us down the path of “Firsts”!

Dear colleagues,
Yesterday at an Open Access Week event at our Richmond campus (co-hosted with UBC, SFU, BCIT, and Langara) we announced the launch of our seventh Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) program in the form of the Bachelor of Arts Degree in General Studies. This is the first four-year ZTC program in North America and builds on more than 700 unique courses that are now offered as ZTC. As of this semester we have saved KPU students more than $3.1 million in textbook costs. The new program means that an individual student could save more than $5000 over the course of their B.A.
There is, of course, an enormous amount of work that goes into developing a large program like this and I am especially grateful to our colleagues in the Library, members of our Open Education Working Group, the Bookstore print-on-demand team, the Office of the Registrar’s Scheduling team, Office of Planning & Accountability staff, and of course the more than 300 faculty across every Faculty and School at the institution who are actively participating in this initiative.
