OER Focus Group Invitation

Consider participating in a focus group toward the development of best practices in fair use and fair dealing for open educational resources. The study is run in part by American University Washington College of Law.

In any copyright analysis, the first question has to be "what is the purpose of your use?" Thus, this series of focus groups seeks to document the pedagogical, social, and emotional purposes for including third party materials in OER. These focus groups are currently focused on fair use in the United States and fair dealing in Canada - so we encourage participants in both of those jurisdictions to participate.

Which focus group should I attend? In some groups we will be focusing on a particular discipline or education level, so you may want to consider signing up accordingly. But this is an option, not a requirement. You should feel free to sign up for any workshop. For OER librarians, if you sign up for a specific discipline-focused workshop, it would be great if you could either attend with a professor you work with in that discipline, or with a project in that discipline in mind.
