Hello fellow open educators,
Open Education Week wrapped up this past Friday and over the week there were many events
in the Lower Mainland that highlighted the work that many institutions are doing in the
open in BC. I hope some of you managed to take the time to attend at least 1 or 2 events.
BCIT kicked off the week with an "OER for the Trades" discussion with the
participation of Amanda Coolidge from BCcampus, Bonnie Johnston from the Learning and
Teaching Centre, Tim Carson, from Piping Trades, Chad Flinn from Electrical Trades and a
guest visitor from Vancouver Island University, Sally Vinden. There were some great points
that were addressed and many lessons learned that were shared.
As the week was underway, the Open Education Working Group released the BCIT Open
Education Report which you can see attached. It looks at the Open Initiatives and projects
that happened at BCIT over the last year. It was a busy year with lots of activity in Open
Education and we hope the momentum carries on into 2019!
Have a great weekend everyone! and thanks to all of you who choose to work in the
"Open"!
