Hi there folks,

Open Access Week is coming up next week, and I would like to encourage you to participate in as many events as possible. Open Access Week is a global event that celebrates and generates awareness about open access:

"Open Access Week, a global event now entering its eighth year, is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.

There are many events happening around the world to celebrate Open Access, and there are also a number of local events happening here in Vancouver. Generally, these events are free and open to everyone. You can see a list of the local events on the BCcampus calendar.

This year, BCIT is proud to partner with UBC and SFU to celebrate Open Access. Together, BCIT, SFU and UBC are bringing to you a conversation about tensions and risks in open scholarship. There will be a thought provoking panel discussion, moderated by Amanda Coolidge of BCcampus, followed by audience engagement. The event will take place on October 26 at the BCIT Downtown Campus at 5pm. This is a free event open to anyone who wishes to participate and I would like to encourage you to attend. Here is the registration link.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Rosario
