Hello Everyone,
We have just published the date (October 3) for the next [ https://open.bccampus.ca/pressbooks-training-webinar/ | Pressbooks Training webinars ] . These sessions are open to all B.C. faculty and staff.
In addition to the Introduction session, we will also be offering a third more advanced session: Intermediate 3 which will talk about how and when to cite and attribute elements for authors working on open textbooks in Pressbooks, along with where to find openly licensed resources.This intermediate session is the third in a series that we're developing on issues beyond introductory topics.
For faculty and staff who do not have experience using Pressbooks, it is strongly recommended that they take the Introduction webinar before the Intermediate. These two webinars are conveniently scheduled so they can be taken on the same day.

Hi everyone,
The August volume of IRRODL includes this great article about research done with students about their perceptions of the OpenStax textbooks. Really interesting read:
Student and Faculty Perceptions of OpenStax in High Enrollment Courses<http://www.irrodl.org/index.php/irrodl/article/view/2462/4299>
I particularly enjoyed reading about Faculty's experiences:
"The faculty participants used the new text as an opportunity to rethink how they organized the content for their students."
and
"Faculty found the flexibility of the OpenStax textbook very useful. Their ability to link directly to content they planned to use and to add additional content using the learning management system contributed to their overall level of satisfaction with the content and associated tools."
As much as I am a proponent of Open Textbooks, I am not a solid proponent of the textbook (in the format that has been in place over the last few decades) to be a driver of open educational practice. So seeing that faculty is using the open textbook to adapt their teaching practice makes me have hope!
Cheers,
Rosario

Hi everyone,
The Contact North series about How Higher Education Institutions Around the World Are Applying Open Education Resources (OER) In New and Diverse Ways features UBC and KPU in this issue. The following pieces speak about ways in which open practices were integrated into teaching and learning as well as the challenges faced. Makes for really interesting reading.

* KPU<https://teachonline.ca/tools-trends/implementation-open-educational-resourc…>
