Hello everyone,
Just a quick follow up to say that I haven’t received any responses to this email (nor on
the Open Textbook Network’s listserv); however, I am currently investigating TAO, which is
a potential solution that was suggested to me by Clint Lalonde from BCcampus:

Cheers,
Rajiv

Subject: [Canadaoer] Q about question bank creation/management software
Hello everyone,
I am writing to inquire whether any of you have used software to support the authoring and
management of question banks to support open textbooks?
I have used Repondus in the past
(
https://www.respondus.com/products/respondus/index.shtml) as well as implemented simpler
options that involve writing questions in MS word using a format that can easily be
imported into an LMS using an importer like
http://lyceum.algonquincollege.com/quizgenerator/. The former also has a free version
(Respondus LE,
https://www.respondus.com/download/respondus_le.shtml) which works for
authoring and managing question banks that will be used for print exams (without LMS
integration), while the latter approach works for LMS-delivered quizzes but not at all for
print quizzes where, for example, you want to have the ability to randomly pick items. A
third option is to create questions within the LMS question bank tool itself, but that is
typically a very clunky system that does not export well for print quizzes.
I am aware of online tools such as Proola (
http://proola.org/) and Prendus
(
https://www.prendus.com/) that are geared towards collaborative question bank authoring
by educators and students, respectively. Given the growing interest in creating ancillary
resources to support open textbooks, I am wondering if anyone else has implemented (or
even trialled) a different technological solution?
Many thanks,
Rajiv
