An instructor who teaches first year university French is looking for an open textbook. Does anyone know of something to replace this:
Invitation au monde francophone" (2nd edition), Jarvis, Gilbert A., Thérèse M. Bonin, Diane W. Birckbichler, Anne Lair, Boston: Heinle Cengage Learning, 2005.
Thank you.

Hello friends,
FYI a press release announcing our second Zed Cred (the Adult Graduation Diploma), along with zero textbook cost pathways in English, Math, Biology, and Physics Qualifying Studies just went out. See: http://www.kpu.ca/news/2018/08/29/kpu-launches-second-program-can-be-taken-…
It includes a nice promotional video for our Zed Cred programs.
Cheers,
Rajiv
Hello everyone,
Just a quick follow up to say that I haven’t received any responses to this email (nor on the Open Textbook Network’s listserv); however, I am currently investigating TAO, which is a potential solution that was suggested to me by Clint Lalonde from BCcampus: https://www.taotesting.com/tao-community-edition/
Cheers,
Rajiv

Subject: [Canadaoer] Q about question bank creation/management software
Hello everyone,
I am writing to inquire whether any of you have used software to support the authoring and management of question banks to support open textbooks?
I have used Repondus in the past (https://www.respondus.com/products/respondus/index.shtml) as well as implemented simpler options that involve writing questions in MS word using a format that can easily be imported into an LMS using an importer like http://lyceum.algonquincollege.com/quizgenerator/. The former also has a free version (Respondus LE, https://www.respondus.com/download/respondus_le.shtml) which works for authoring and managing question banks that will be used for print exams (without LMS integration), while the latter approach works for LMS-delivered quizzes but not at all for print quizzes where, for example, you want to have the ability to randomly pick items. A third option is to create questions within the LMS question bank tool itself, but that is typically a very clunky system that does not export well for print quizzes.
I am aware of online tools such as Proola (http://proola.org/) and Prendus (https://www.prendus.com/) that are geared towards collaborative question bank authoring by educators and students, respectively. Given the growing interest in creating ancillary resources to support open textbooks, I am wondering if anyone else has implemented (or even trialled) a different technological solution?
Many thanks,
Rajiv

Subject: Seeking a Sustainable OER Ecosystem - Redstone Report Available for Sharing
Hello all,
Thank you for taking the time to meet with me and/or the Redstone team in the last few months about OER ecosystem sustainability. I’ve attached the final report from that effort and invite you to share the report with anyone you think will be interested. All of your input was valuable in shaping the document, and we greatly appreciate your thoughtful engagement on this topic.
Best,
Angela

I received an email from an instructor in Nutrition who would like to replace the commercial textbook currently being used. Below is a link to the current book (Food and Culture) and the course learning outcomes. Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.
https://www.amazon.ca/Food-Culture-Kathryn-Sucher/dp/1305628055/ref=sr_1_2?…
Here are the learning outcomes from last year:
1. Explain the relationship between food, food choices, ethno cultural, and religious identity
2. Recognize the role culture plays in influencing group and individual food selection, preparation, consumption and in producing different attitudes and beliefs around food
3. Understand the impact traditional health beliefs and practices have on food choice and health
4. Gain skills in intercultural communication
5. Explore food systems and their impact on individual food choices
6. Become familiar with world religions and understand religious influences on food choice
7. Understand how food patterns of people from different cultures help them meet nutritional needs
