Hi All, I'm hoping that someone has a lead on OER content for an introductory survey course in science (SCIE 2240: Science Past, Present, and Future). The outcomes are broad and include: * Describe the steps in the scientific method * Describe a series of experiments from the history of science that illustrate the elements of scientific method. * Define accuracy, precision, systematic error, and random error as they apply to measurements. * Employ appropriate units for physical measurements. * Define a hypothesis test and identify its components. * Make a conclusion from a formal hypothesis test based on sample data. * Create a written group report on a modern scientific result and the consequences to the prevailing scientific theory or model. * Discuss current trends in science. (This is not an exhaustive list) I have checked OpenStax, Open Textbook Library, OER Commons, BCcampus, Cool4Ed.org, OASIS, and Mason OER Metafinder. I have found a chapter here or there which might be re-written to fit these outcomes. However, I would love to find 2-3 books (possible topics: history of science, scientific method and research techniques, and current/future trends in science) that would cover these topics more comprehensively. I certainly do not expect to find all of this in one place. Any leads would be appreciated! Opening Up Copyright Instructional Modules

Dear Canada OER Community, The team behind the University of Alberta’s Opening Up Copyright instructional modules is pleased to share an update on the series along with several new openly licensed modules and renewed opportunities to contribute. Building on the initial two modules (Images and Public Domain) released in March 2018, we have now produced six additional modules on the following topics: · Open Licensing and Creative Commons · Other Types of Intellectual Property (IP) · Theoretical Foundations for Copyright · CCH v. LSUC · SOCAN v. Bell, and · Section 13: Ownership of Copyright All of the modules can be found here: https://sites.library.ualberta.ca/copyright/ We’d also like to emphasize that these modules are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) licence so that they can be adopted and adapted by anyone. Business Information Systems OER Textbook?

Hi All, I have an instructor who is very keen on developing a Business Information Systems OER textbook from the Canadian perspective. We researched current OERs and have found a couple in the US that he could use as a launch point for his work. However, I know that business is a very popular area for new development and I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of a similar project (completed or in progress) at their institution or organization. BCcampus Open Education: new OER and updates (January 23, 2018)

It has been used for many years and underwent five revisions. When the author and Dalhousie faculty member, Bill Freedman, passed away, his widow agreed to publish the newest edition as an open textbook. Hi Heather, The NC clause refers only to the use, not to the entity. So even though her practice may be a commercial entity, the use of handing out patient education materials, to me, seems to be a non-commercial purpose. If there is no payment or compensation directly connected with the exchange, then you should be in the clear. Creative Commons Question

Good Monday morning everyone. I have a question about a CC-BY-NC license. This module from NOBA carries that license (https://nobaproject.com/modules/the-nervous-system) I’m married to a chiropractor who would like to take content from the book and put it into some patient education materials to provide to patients for free. Her practice is obviously a business and she’s paid by patients for care, but not for the patient education materials. Can she still take content from this module for this purpose? Looking for OER Shop Safety Docs/Power Tool Manual

I've had an instructor ask for help locating OERs related to shop safety and power tool use. His exact message: We are planning to put together a "module" or "document/policy" regarding safe use of tablesaws and jointers in our Carpentry and Cabinetmaker shops and wondered what may be available. I've look at MERLOT, Alberta OER, SkillsCommons, OERCommons, OASIS, BCcampus, and the University of Hawai'i. I've found materials related to OSHA, occupational safety, and CCOHS, but not a specific shop manual for carpentry or a manual for power tools. (I need to give the U of H textbook a closer look as some parts may be relevant). I'm hoping someone might have a lead for me!
