This month, we are bringing the Canadian open education community together for a discussion on Accessibility in Open Education. Calls in this series take place on the third Wednesday of most months. While this month’s discussion will be primarily in English, bilingual moderators will be on hand to help ensure participants are able to contribute in the official language of their choice. We will be taking a 2-month summer break, resuming #OECCCC calls in September. Settle in with your beverage of choice and prepare for some coast-to-coast sharing and networking. Apply by June 20 to run a Wikipedia assignment in Fall 2021!

Dear colleagues, BCcampus recently received notice of an opportunity to collaborate with Wiki Education in the Fall 2021 term. Below is the modified text from a message that we received about this opportunity. The deadline to run a Wikipedia assignment in Fall 2021 is rapidly approaching! To run a Wikipedia assignment this Fall, submit your application by June 20. Wiki Education's support is fully funded, and there are no fees to run a Wikipedia assignment. The reasons to run a Wikipedia assignment are myriad, but here are some reflections that capture the essence of the project: "Although many students admitted they had first felt intimidated by the thought of their work being ‘out there’ on the internet, they all commented on the huge sense of achievement they felt seeing their articles published on Wikipedia at the end of semester and how contributing to global knowledge was incredibly fulfilling." —Professor Victoria Austin, University of Winnipeg "One of the things I loved about this project was the idea of being able to improve something on a public platform and offer substantive research that could be helpful to someone who might not have access to the same resources we are so lucky to have as students at the University of Michigan." —Aja Brandmeier, Student, University of Michigan To apply for a spot in the program, follow these steps: 1. After you complete the orientation, you'll be asked to launch the Assignment Design Wizard. Go through the wizard to create your course page. Your course page will be the central hub for your Wikipedia assignment, and it's how you receive support from Wiki Education. When you're ready, submit the course page, and your application will be complete! We will notify you by July 16 if we are able to offer you a spot for the Fall 2021 term. He is the Chair-Elect of the Partnership Among South Carolina’s Academic Libraries (PASCAL), the State’s academic library consortium’s Affordable Learning Committee, which engages in a variety of activities that promote the use of open textbooks and other OER resources to librarians and academic faculty statewide. His current areas of research include strategies instructors can employ to increase student use of OER in their learning, open pedagogy as an approach to increase student research and information literacy skills, as well as developing OER materials on robotics, mechatronics, and advanced manufacturing. I would agree with Jenni- We edited the chapters ( in multiple formats) before putting them into pressbooks for version 1. This year we tried to have the students edit in press books - and it proved to be too difficult at this point in time.
