Subject: Re: Sample OE working group charter/terms of reference?
Principles (or) Background
The Open Education Advisory Committee (Open Langara) will bring together interested parties from across campus
to cultivate in-house expertise, network with the open education community, and steer the College’s participation in the open movement. Open Langara will advocate for low-barrier post-secondary education by supporting the adoption of open educational resources
(OER), open textbooks, and open access at Langara.
Purpose
This committee provides insight and advice regarding strategic directions in the ongoing, sustainable use of open
educational resources at Langara. In addition, members will:
·
communicate trends and developments in open education to Langara leadership and members of the wider campus community
·
serve as a liaison between the College and open education partners (BCcampus, Creative Commons, CAPER-BC)
·
provide support and training opportunities for Langara instructors seeking to adopt, adapt, develop, and share OER
·
identify opportunities for Langara to collaborate on open education initiatives
·
identify and share opportunities for the dissemination of outputs from open education initiatives at Langara and beyond (i.e. research, journal articles,
conference papers, panel and roundtable discussions)
·
identify and share funding opportunities for open education initiatives with the campus community (i.e. through Langara Applied Research, BCcampus and Creative
Commons grants)
·
identify and recommend resources or support requirements
The Committee includes but is not limited to:
·
Educational Technology
·
Library*
·
Instructional faculty (2-3)
·
Academic Dean or Division Chair
·
Students (1-2)*
·

·
Continuing Studies
·
Teaching & Curriculum Development Centre (TCDC)*
·
Copyright*
·
Director, Academic Innovation
·
Provost Team (receives Minutes, Reports) ... includes Provost, Deans (Academic and Student Services/RES)
Other members of the Langara community are welcome to participate as members at large. The Committee Chair to
be determined at first meeting.
*One individual may represent more than one area.
Operating procedures
·
Committee members who are faculty will normally serve for a two-year period. Appointments are renewable.
·
Resources and administrative support will be provided by Academic Innovation.
·
The Committee will meet approximately once per semester at the call of the Chair. If a committee member cannot attend a meeting, a delegate may attend on
the member’s behalf. The committee is ongoing.
·
A majority of committee members present at the meeting is required to pass a motion. A quorum will comprise six members.
Working groups
Sub-groups will be formed from within Open Langara as need arises (for example, institutional representation on
the BCcampus Open Textbook Project).

Subject: [Bcoewg] Sample OE working group charter/terms of reference?
Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask if any you have a formal charter/terms of reference to support the work of your open education working group (and, if
so, whether you would be willing to share this)?
Many thanks,
Rajiv
