I think BCOEL efforts fit into at least three streams, so I will second the motion.

I’m also willing to collaborate on a draft proposal and will offer to take on the first draft.

Maybe anyone who is interested could get together online before Nov. 29 to generate ideas and we could finalize at our Dec. 6 meeting?

I would like to support putting one in. But, I think it should not be a general OER one. I think we’ve done quite a few of those and the last round it seemed to me that the audience had heard it all before. Maybe something more specific like:

·         Helping faculty go open: Librarian involvement in the creation of OER’s for the classroom (I’m thinking here how we are pulling together workshops on how to help faculty use Pressbooks and possibly OJS once we get it implemented)

·         Institutional OER initiatives: a discussion on the different institutional OER groups that exist?

Another idea is to get BCcampus, the faculty fellows, or an OER ambassador from our local campuses to present with us. I think both BCLA and the audience welcome perspectives from outside the library. I know there was a good response to Rajiv when we brought him in a few years back.

Here is the BCLA conference information.

Proposal submission deadline: December 6, 2016, 11:59 pm

Does waiting until Nov. 29th give us enough time to think of, write, and submit a proposal? Or, should some of us come up with a draft proposal that we can discuss Nov. 29? Looks like the conference theme is right up our alley.

Ignite your passion for new ideas.

2017 BC Library Conference
April 19 to 21, Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront, 1133 West Hastings St, Vancouver, BC
Proposal submission deadline: December 6, 2016, 11:59 pm

Seek. Spark. Ignite.

What gets you fired up? How do you know what to change, what to create, and what to let go? Creative tension can lead to breakthrough ideas in the library sector. Together, we can spark new solutions to the challenges we face, and light the path to future discoveries.

The conference theme is a timely call to action: be curious, take risks and explore the unknown.

If you want to engage with people who ignite innovative change, join us at the 2017 BC Library Conference.

We encourage conference session proposals that are provocative and bold. The transformation of the way we live, work and learn creates a constant state of ‘beta,’ and we welcome sessions that describe ideas or models in a state of evolution. We have much to learn from each other, and from allied professionals and organizations. We hope you will share your best learning experiences, ambitions and aspirations with the library community.

The program streams access, evidence, activism, place, community, and work are vital areas of dialogue to ignite conversation. They are designed to transcend boundaries that can keep library sectors in silos. Detailed descriptions of the program streams can be found here at the extended “Call for Proposal” page:
https://bclaconnect.ca/2017-conference/program-speakers/call-for-proposals/

As in 2016, BCLA will use ProposalSpace for the submission process. A simple-to-create ProposalSpace account is required, as outlined in the FAQ below. Your ProposalSpace account allows you to revisit your submission as often as you like to make edits or to add information.

ProposalSpace FAQ (please read before setting up your ProposalSpace account):

If you have any questions about using ProposalSpace, please contact Shannon Stumph, the BC Library Conference Coordinator at shannon@dfcevents.ca

On behalf of the 2017 Conference Co-Chairs Leanna Jantzi and Heidi Schiller, I invite you to take part as a presenter, a delegate and an engaged member of the library community. Creative ideas start with a single spark.
