Hi Rosario,

What an interesting use of Libguides.  I think sharing this type of information is very important.

I, in turn, will be sharing this with our librarians and the OER working group.

Thanks for sending.

Debra

Hi there everyone,

I saw these examples of lib guides in the CCCOER group, and thought some of you might be interested in looking at them. Let me know if these things are of no interest, and I will stop posting here :-)

Cheers,

We have several faculty members who have used LibGuides as textbooks.  Here are a few examples:

Michele Howard is the librarian who worked with the faculty on these.  Here contact info is mhoward@nmc.edu  231-995-1065.

We have done the same as Chelsea. Most faculty don’t even want access, they prefer to work with us on the content and let us get it organized. It’s a nice way to combine OER with library subscription content too.

Hi Denise,

I *sort of* did this for the current semester with a faculty member teaching Human Resources Management. She really just wanted a place to store her OER textbook that did not require students to log in, and I offered her a libguides page. It does not contain any other content, as you can see via the link.

She wanted more content, but did not give me enough notice to build something in time. I am totally open to the idea and hope to work with her over the winter break to make a more interesting page.

I should note, however, that many of my colleagues did not like the idea of faculty having a libguide. They were concerned that the idea would catch on and would be too much work for the library. I highly doubt this will be an issue. There were also concerns that if we gave faculty an admin account that they could potentially do some damage to our other pages. However, this can be solved with permission settings.

I hope this was helpful. Good luck!

Has anyone collaborated with teaching faculty on creating LibGuides for specific OER classes? Some OER faculty here at Reynolds Community College are interested in using LibGuides to store, embed, link to OER content (rather than using Blackboard, Candela, etc.)  If so, can you provide links to some sample LibGuides?

Thanks!

Denise
