Hello All,
The First Nations and Indigenous Studies Program and UBC Library will be hosting an Honouring Indigenous Writers Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/HonouringIndigenousWriters/U…> on March 2nd from 1-4pm at the Sty-Wet-Tan Hall in the First Nations Longhouse at UBC Vancouver campus.
Wikipedia is a multilingual, web-based, free encyclopedia based on a model of open community-generated knowledge. This edit-a-thon is seeking to improve the coverage of Indigenous writers on Wikipedia and to encourage diverse community editors to actively work to dissuade assumptions about Indigenous literature by raising their profile in this increasingly influential information source. Attendees will pick authors from a list of Indigenous authors who have approved their inclusion in this event and edit/create their Wikipedia articles.
The event is free, catered, and features guest speakers who will share their experiences as Indigenous authors. Please bring your own laptop.

Hi Lauri
I still have some items on there that I am pointing at. I can have them switched over to my local build by the end of the month if that’s not too long?
If anyone else on the steering committee is pointing at the list of resource on our ‘shared libguides’ project (there might be a few of you that like me have not recreated them on your home libguides yet) – then please copy and paste the code directly into your site instead of using the widget.

Hello BCOEL,
BCcampus is looking at retiring its MediaWiki website (https://mediawiki.bccampus.ca<https://mediawiki.bccampus.ca/index.php/Category:BCOER>) due to its aging software. In the past BCOEL/BCOER has posted information on this site: https://mediawiki.bccampus.ca/index.php/Category:BCOER. Before BCcampus makes a final decision, we want to give BCOEL a chance to retrieve its information.
Please let me know if you need to do this. If so, how long do you need.
Thanks
Lauri

Subject: KPU's inaugural Open Education Research Institute (May 14, 2020)
On May 14, 2020, KPU will host its inaugural Open Education Research Institute, a one-day training and networking opportunity for scholars across BC post-secondary institutions who wish to develop or enhance their open education research skills.
The Open Education Research Institute (OERI) is an opportunity for new and emerging researchers interested in open educational practices to deepen their knowledge and sharpen their skill set while connecting with other researchers and joining a Provincial mentorship network. The one-day institute will begin with an overview of existing research on open educational practices, including a special focus on research conducted in or by researchers in British Columbia. Participants will learn about different theoretical and methodological frameworks for research in open education and receive guidance on practical issues such as preparing applications for ethical review of their research projects and publishing their work in open access journals or repositories. Participants will work in affinity groups to draft and revise their research questions and be paired with an experienced researcher, who will serve as their mentor for the following year.
The OERI is jointly funded by KPU Open Education and BCcampus. While there will be no cost to register for the event, registration is required to plan for catering and other logistics. The OERI has deliberately been scheduled to take place the day after the Festival of Learning<https://festival.bccampus.ca/> to make it easier for those travelling to the Lower Mainland for that event to participate in the institute.
Date: Thursday, May 14, 2020
Time: 8:30am- 4:30pm, followed by a no-host dinner
Address: KPU Richmond, 8771 Lansdowne Rd, Richmond, BC V6X 3X7

Hello everyone,
Some of you may have heard from Erin Fields but I'm in Vancouver @ KPU
Surrey this week and next (except next Friday I'll be at Langara) and would
be interested in meeting with anyone face to face to discuss open ed
projects in your libraries, provide any support I might offer or just get a
cup of coffee (or beer). I'll be checking in on the Library as Publisher:
Using Open Publishing Tools project, if there are specific tasks anyone
would like to delegate, let me know.

Hello all,
Please find the draft minutes for yesterday’s meeting attached.
Rosario shared a link to a recent article by Michael Paskevicius in the WebEx chat. I joined the meeting by phone and missed this. I would be happy to add this to the document if someone can share the link. Thank you kindly!

Hello,
I hope that you all received invitations to online BCOEL meetings for Mondays, Jan. 13, March 9, and April 6, 1-2pm. If you did not, please let me know and I will make sure you are on the invitation.
For our in-person meeting in February, would Friday Feb. 7 or 14 work for people? Let me know if either or both dates work for you.
Should I book a room at BCIT downtown campus?
A 3 hour meeting (9-12) might be enough time but it depends on a few things. Perhaps we should book a room for 9-1 and hope for 9-12?
So far, on our agenda for the in-person meeting we have:
* Business meeting
* Selina McGinnis would like to meet with us - she is the lead UX designer for the open textbook findability project
* CARL Workshop - either those who are able to attend the CARL workshop give a mini-workshop/summary or we discuss how to bring a similar workshop to BC? Hard to know what this part of the meeting might look like until the 2 day workshop in Toronto has happened.
Best, Lin
