Hi there everyone,
I would like to ask the group for permission to use some of the materials from the Retreat we had earlier this year with the new community of practice I am also guiding - the Open Education Practices group, composed mostly by Instructional Designers. They are at the stage that they would like to think about aims and goals, so I would love to share some of the materials we used.
The materials are here:
http://bcoerguides.wikispaces.com/BCOER+Librarian+User+Group+-+Retreat
Let me know if that is ok or not.
Cheers,
Rosario Passos

On behalf of the BC Library Association and the BC Library Conference Selection Committee I would like to thank you for submitting a session proposal for the 2017 Conference. This year we had an abundance of excellent submissions and were not able to include them all in our limited program.
While your proposal was not selected for this year’s conference we hope you will submit again for the 2018 Conference.
We ask that you contact any additional presenters / speakers you included in your proposal and extend our thanks and appreciation for submitting, and our hope that they too will consider submissions for future conferences.

Subject: [lpc-l] GVSU professor recognized for library-published OER

From: Matt Ruen <ruenm(a)gvsu.edu>

I'm excited to share the news that Grand Valley State University
mathematics professor Ted Sundstrom is to receive the inaugural Daniel
Solow Author's Award from the Mathematical Association of America, in
recognition of /Mathematical Reasoning: Writing and Proof/
<http://scholarworks.gvsu.edu/books/9/>, an open educational resource
published through ourScholarWorks@GVSU
<http://scholarworks.gvsu.edu/>repository platform. The Daniel Solow
Author's Award celebrates authors whose materials have had a positive
impact on undergraduate mathematics education.
/Mathematical Reasoning: Writing and Proof/is one of our favorite OER
and library publishing success stories: after Dr. Sundstrom reclaimed
his copyright from the original commercial publisher, the GVSU Libraries
helped him make the textbook openly available online to a growing global
audience. Dr. Sundstrom's textbook has been formally adopted at 47
universities, while the digital editions in ScholarWorks were downloaded
more than 22,000 times in 2016 alone!
On behalf of the GVSU Libraries' scholarly communications team,
congratulations to Dr. Sundstrom!

Hello,
It is that time of semester when we hopefully see more attention brought to the high cost of textbooks. UVIC made the papers - http://www.saanichnews.com/news/410166795.html#.WHZqlZmgDuo.twitter
And here at Douglas, the Douglas College Student Union set up a table set in our concourse area (see attached picture). I took the picture at the end of the day but during the day I noticed they had a lot of traffic around the table.
Did anything happen at your institution that you would like to share?

Hi,
Here's the link to the Doodle to find a date for a February meeting. Sorry for the length of the Doodle but I wanted to give as many options as possible.

Hi all!
I'd like to run a series of posts about how communities around the world are inspiring gratitude and spreading the message of the commons and sharing, and I'd love to hear from you.
What are the small things you're doing for Creative Commons? Whether it's encouraging your local communities to adopt CC, licensing your work, or giving back to your community in another way, please reach out with some writing (any language you feel comfortable writing in,) a video, a photo, or anything else that tells a story about why CC matters to you. Creativity is much appreciated! Show your talent to get folks excited about the commons community!
The deadline for this piece is Wednesday 1/18. Please reach out if you have any questions!
Jennie

Hello,
I was going to send out a Doodle for our next meeting but as I look at Rosario's doodle for the mediawiki training it looks like everyone is available on Wednesday Jan. 25th. Do you think it is possible to have a meeting that day as well or would that be too much? If so, I can put out a Doodle for dates after Jan. 25th.
Thoughts?

Hi All - Is it possible to get physical copies of some open textbooks? I am doing a listening tour shortly about OT and would like to have some physical examples. If possible in psychology, sociology, economics, political science, chemistry, and biology.
Thanks
