Hi there everyone,
As discussed at our last meeting, I have made arrangements about a Mediawiki webinar. Clint Lalonde has kindly agreed to share his knowledge of working with MediaWiki with our group sometime in January, so now we just have to set a date. I created a Doodle poll with some options:
[ http://doodle.com/poll/22z9dwvumuwwayrg | http://doodle.com/poll/22z9dwvumuwwayrg ]
So, please check the poll and select the date an time that best works for you, so that we can book the date with Clint.
Hope you are getting into the Christmas spirit, and I wish you all the Merriest of Christmases and the Happiest of New Years!
Cheers,

Subject: Present with Us: OEW
Hello CCCOER Community!
March 27-31, 2017 is [ https://www.openeducationweek.org/ | Open Education Week ] ! Open Education Week (OEW) is an awareness raising event meant to highlight the efforts of institutions and individuals who work to increase the missions of open education worldwide. In particular, we are interested in hearing about how people are increasing adoption of OER in the CCCOER community of practice.
CCCOER would like to host several short presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday March 28 and 29 showcasing the works of our network institutions and individuals. We are calling for proposals for short webinar presentations on one of the following two themes:
Just Get Started: first steps in OER adoption
Start to Finish: along the pathway to OER Degrees
Please note, the point of these short (15-30 minute) presentations is to showcase projects adopting openness in teaching and learning. We welcome presentations from whole institutions, individual faculty, or partnerships.
To submit your proposal, please visit this [ https://goo.gl/forms/Kb90A2De8rtNdp2S2 | Google Form ] . We will be accepting proposals until mid-February.
Presenting at OEW is a great way to showcase your efforts in OER adoption, and it is a great way to reach an international audience celebrating open education in all of its forms.
Thank you for you interest!
Happy Holidays,
Quill
Please note:
Open Education Week also [ https://www.openeducationweek.org/page/call-for-participation | accepts proposals ] for people who want to share videos, projects, institutionally supported presentations, and many other projects meant to raise awareness of open education. Events accepted by the OEW organizers will be shared by the OEW website.
CCCOER events of that week are partnered with OEW, and will appear in the directory. However, we will also organize presentations specifically for our community and provide support for use of the conferencing system we use for monthly webinars and advisory meetings.

We have done the same as Chelsea. Most faculty don’t even want access, they prefer to work with us on the content and let us get it organized. It’s a nice way to combine OER with library subscription content too.

Subject: Re: Collaborating with faculty on using LibGuides for specific OER classes
Hi Denise,
I *sort of* did this for the current semester with a faculty member teaching Human Resources Management. She really just wanted a place to store her OER textbook that did not require students to log in, and I offered her a [ http://libguides.stcc.edu/c.php?g=555211 |
libguides page ] . It does not contain any other content, as you can see via the link.
She wanted more content, but did not give me enough notice to build something in time. I am totally open to the idea and hope to work with her over the winter break to make a more interesting page.
I should note, however, that many of my colleagues did not like the idea of faculty having a libguide. They were concerned that the idea would catch on and would be too much work for the library. I highly doubt this will be an issue. There were also concerns that if we gave faculty an admin account that they could potentially do some damage to our other pages. However, this can be solved with permission settings.
I hope this was helpful. Good luck!

Has anyone collaborated with teaching faculty on creating LibGuides for specific OER classes? Some OER faculty here at Reynolds Community College are interested in using LibGuides to store, embed, link to OER content (rather than using Blackboard, Candela, etc.) If so, can you provide links to some sample LibGuides?
Thanks!

Hi there everyone,
The email lin sent me yesterday with the program for the ALS meeting on Dec. 9 has ALS/BCOER in teh title.
[ https://docs.google.com/document/d/1g4k3bBN_1YAxPK43HEapO7nyv29VHZdnuwwMN4i… | https://docs.google.com/document/d/1g4k3bBN_1YAxPK43HEapO7nyv29VHZdnuwwMN4i… ]
Can someone edit that file to read BCOEL? I have tweeted twice about it - we have corrected it on the BCcampus calendar.
Please and thanks.

Hi, all.
I have just submitted the BCOEL proposal.
Part of the submission process required entering the names and emails of the speakers, which then led to automatically generated confirmation emails. Can those of you who provided names contact your respective recruit(s) and just let them know nothing is official until/unless the proposal is accepted? Probably better having a message come from someone they know rather than some UFV librarian apparently signing people up for conferences...
Here is the panel as submitted:
Arthur 'Gill' Green (faculty, UBC)
Ken Jeffery (faculty, BCIT)
Farhad Dastur (faculty, KPU)
Courtney Miller (student, SFU)
Brenda Smith (Librarian, TRU)
Loretta Teng (Instructional designer, BCIT)
James Rout (Associate VP, BCIT)
Thanks.
