Hi Deborah,
Thanks for bringing this forward. I’ve been trying to do this at UVic and didn’t have much luck. We use Banner which is what KPU uses. I talked to Rajiv about how this can be done and it is not very difficult,
but we would need to get buy in Registrar’s and definitely the Learning and Teaching Centre. In my initial query, I had buy in from Registrars and not the LTC. And later the Registrars removed that acceptance for the project on advice from the LTC.
Recently, I heard that the university is interested to know about how much students spend on textbooks across campus. The project was tasked to two Senate committees. Unfortunately, I’ve not heard back from
either on starting this project yet.
A year ago, I started a
project documenting the number of textbook titles listed in the Bookstore catalogue and looked to see if we had the titles in the Library. We’ve renewed the project this
year. Here’s a
summary of the year 1 of the project.

Subject: [Bcoel] Question about identifying no textbook cost at the point of registration
Hello,
Please excuse the cross posting but I want to reach out to those who are not on the canadaoer listserv.
The BC Open Education Librarians group is planning an event for
Open Education Week March 6 – 10, 2023 We are planning a session on how courses can be marked as having no textbook cost in their registration system. We know from
Marking Open and Affordable Courses that KPU does but we would like to know from others in B.C. if they are doing the same or even in the planning process. It would also be useful to
know what registration system you use.
Thank you - your input and time is much appreciated.
Best,
Debra.
