BCIT has posted for a 3 month full-time contract librarian from Jan. 4-March 31. This position will be involved in open education work as well as subject liaison. It is a quick turn-around closing Nov. 13.

At 11 a.m. PST on Thursday, November 5, Rebus is hosting a session called Office Hours: Writing Math and Science Textbooks<https://www.rebus.community/t/office-hours-writing-math-and-science-textboo…>. The event is described as follows:
Writing and publishing math and science open textbooks, lab manuals, and other related ancillaries usually involves a unique set of challenges. In this session, our guests will discuss their experience creating math and science textbooks on a variety of publishing platforms and tools including Pressbooks, LaTeX, and LibreTexts. Topics will include how to add formulas, create interactivity through PhET or H5P simulations, and ensure accessibility. This is not a how-to session, but rather an overview of the tradeoffs between platforms and a discussion of strategies for creating math and science open textbooks that meets author and student expectations.
This session would be of interest to those who are publishing math and science textbooks and want to hear about the different strategies that others are applying to the task.

October 19-25 marks Open Access Week, a global celebration of the open access movement.
BCOEL and BCcampus are co-hosting a virtual OA Week event entitled Open Access in Action: Tales from 5 Institutions<https://bccampus.ca/event/open-access-in-action-tales-from-5-institutions/> on October 21 from 1-2pm. Please join us!
Presenters from five B.C. post-secondary institutions will provide a quick overview of their projects, followed by Q&A. We hope that this format promotes conversation, foments cross-disciplinary connections, and gives participants a sense of the variety of exciting open initiatives happening across the province.

RavenSpace, developed by UBC Press, is a digital platform for publications that aims to support Indigenous community-based research and authorship. It functions as a place where, with community permission, Indigenous knowledge can be shared, but also protected—where knowledge holders may maintain and assert their cultural protocols that govern how certain materials should be accessed, and by whom. In this session, we will show how RavenSpace has integrated publishing and web design workflows with the needs and rights of Indigenous community members and authors. We will share some of RavenSpace’s collaborative approaches, and, more broadly, will discuss additional ways to build cultural considerations into editorial and design choices. Attendees are welcome to share their own examples of approaching culturally sensitive materials in a collaborative environment, as we will allow time for discussion.

Hi All,
I'm having a discussion with a few of my planning committee members and could use examples of OERs used at the grad level. They seem to think it is something used at the undergrad level only.
If you have any examples of courses/programs at your institutions or can point me to any grad specific resources, I'd love to hear to them.
