Dear colleagues,
I am absolutely thrilled to announce that we are growing our team by hiring an additional Open Education Strategist. This is a full-time and ongoing position located within the Teaching & Learning Commons<https://www.kpu.ca/teaching-and-learning> at Kwantlen Polytechnic University<https://www.kpu.ca/> (KPU). See: https://tre.tbe.taleo.net/tre01/ats/careers/v2/viewRequisition?org=JT63GS&c…
The Open Education Strategist provides project management and support for various open education initiatives and direct pedagogical consultation and technical training to KPU educators and programs on how to discover, adopt, adapt, or create open educational resources (OER) and how to design learning experiences that integrate principles of open pedagogy. The incumbent oversees the regular collection, management, and reporting of data for the Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) program, plans the Open Education Research Institute, and provides support to OER grantees, Open Pedagogy Fellows, and Open Education Research Fellows. Through consultations, materials and training, the incumbent communicates open education trends and practices to educators and peers. Collaborating with Teaching and Learning Commons staff, librarians, and other stakeholders within and outside of KPU, this position advances, supports, and evaluates open educational practices for KPU.
Qualified candidates will have current knowledge of Creative Commons licenses and how to discover, adopt, revise, and remix OER educational resources (OER). A demonstrated ability to create or adapt OER using open education tools (e.g., Pressbooks, H5P, etc.), current knowledge of open pedagogy (e.g., renewable assignments), and the ability to design, develop and deliver information, resources and training on open educational practices is required. A Bachelor’s degree is required. A specialization in Communications, Education, Marketing, Educational Technology, or Library & Information Science would be an asset. This is a unionized (BCGEU) position that includes benefits.
KPU has five campuses located in the Metro Vancouver region of British Columbia and offers bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and citations in more than 140 programs. Almost 20,000 students annually attend courses at KPU campuses in Surrey, Richmond, Langley, Cloverdale, and Civic Plaza.
The University welcomes and encourages applications from women, visible minorities, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation, and persons of any gender identity or gender expression. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
A review of applications will begin on January 21, 2022; however, the position will remain open until filled.
Please feel free to share this posting widely. I would be happy to address any questions about this position.
Thank you very much,
Rajiv

Dear colleagues,
The submission deadline for OTESSA 2022 has been extended<https://otessa.org/news/otessa22-final-deadline-extended-to-january-15/> until January 15, 2022.
The Open/Technology, Education, Scholarship and Society Association (OTESSA<https://conference.otessa.org/index.php/conference>) online conference will be held between May 16 and 19, 2022. The overarching theme is critical change, and the subthemes are the transitions of online learning and teaching; addressing the new iniquities; and sustaining positive change. There is also a wildcard subcategory for "innovative and inventive ideas around research or practice" that don't fit any of the subthemes.
As said in their call for proposals<https://otessa.org/2022/>: "OTESSA welcomes thinkers, tinkerers and designers from across disciplines and contexts who are exploring the role of open and digital technologies in education, society, and scholarship to be part of this conference gathering."
Review the OTESSA submission guidelines<https://conference.otessa.org/index.php/conference/about/submissions> and the OTESSA call for proposals<https://otessa.org/2022/> online before submitting.
Best,

Dear colleagues,
UBC is once again running the Program for Open Scholarship and Education (POSE)<https://pose.open.ubc.ca/> in the spring 2022 semester from January to April. Registration is open to anyone in post-secondary who is interested.
POSE is a four-month flexible and blended program that will help you develop foundational knowledge of Open Scholarship, Open Education, and Open Research. POSE will explore how open copyright licenses, collaborative practices, and networked technologies have the potential to lower barriers to knowledge by making the processes and products of scholarship more distributed, transparent, and accessible.
POSE is intended for faculty, staff, postdocs, and students with an interest in open research, open access, open data and open education. The program is open to UBCO, UBCV, and non-UBC faculty, staff, and students at the post-secondary level.
You will learn about:
* Open Education
* Open Access
* Open Research
* Open Data
* Open Tools
To support participant flexibility, the program is composed of online self-paced modules that you can complete over four months. You are also required to participate in two online synchronous sessions during the program. We will also host optional sessions each month where you can engage with various practitioners in the different areas of open scholarship and meet other participants in a synchronous environment. Upon completion, you will receive a Certificate of Completion.
The first module will be released on January 1, 2022. The POSE kick-off session will be on January 18, 2022, and the wrap-up session will be on April 28, 2022. For more detailed information about POSE, visit the POSE home page<https://pose.open.ubc.ca/>.
To register for POSE<https://events.ctlt.ubc.ca/events/program-for-open-scholarship-and-educatio…>, you will need a UBC CWL (campus-wide login). If you don't already have one, you can register for a basic CWL account<https://activate.id.ubc.ca/iamweb/>.
Please share widely.

Dear colleagues,
This is a reminder that the B.C. Open Textbook Collection will be down for scheduled maintenance tomorrow on the morning of Tuesday, December 14. Maintenance will begin at 6:00 a.m. PST and should be completed by 10:00 a.m. PST.
Pressbooks itself will not be affected, so you should be able to access the web versions of all BCcampus-hosted books in Pressbooks. If you usually access a Pressbooks web book through the open textbook collection, it may be helpful to bookmark the web version ahead of time. If you know anyone at your institution who may try to access the collection during this time, please alert them to the planned outage so that they may bookmark web books or download files in advance.
If you need access to a book file while the collection is down, email opentext(a)bccampus.ca and someone will send you a copy. A notice on the collection will give the same instructions.
We will send another message once the maintenance is completed on December 14.
Thank you,

Dear colleagues,
BCcampus has recently released an expression of interest regarding the development of open courses<https://bccampus.ca/grants-calls-for-proposals/expression-of-interest-devel…>.
BCcampus would like to add further open courses to the open online course collection<https://collection.bccampus.ca/> that align with open textbooks currently in the B.C. Open Textbook Collection. We are looking for B.C. applicants who have developed, adapted, or adopted an open textbook in our B.C. Open Textbook Collection to develop a new open course, or adapt an existing open course, that accompanies the textbook.
This expression of interest is for individuals, groups, or institutions and their representatives (e.g., faculty members, articulation committees, teaching and learning centres, libraries, and OER working groups) in B.C. and the Yukon that are interested in developing or adapting open courses aligned with open textbooks available in the B.C. Open Textbook Collection<https://open.bccampus.ca/browse-our-collection/find-open-textbooks/>.
Note that there is no deadline for applications, as this is an ongoing call.
Estimated completion time: Four months
Grant amount: Up to $8000 per course. Three options:
* $2000 for an existing course that requires little modification
* $5000 for an adaption or major revision of an existing course
* $8000 for development of a new course
Applications will be evaluated by an internal review committee based on the following criteria:
* Experience: Applicants have experience developing OER in B.C. post-secondary education. Preference will be given to applicants who have already developed or adapted an open textbook in the B.C. Open Textbook Collection.
* Plan for timeline of completion of work.
* A realistic budget for the scope of work
To learn more about this opportunity, visit the expression of interest page<https://bccampus.ca/grants-calls-for-proposals/expression-of-interest-devel…>. To apply for this opportunity, fill out the application form linked on the EOI page and email it to Melanie Meyers at mmeyers(a)bccampus.ca.
If you have any questions about this opportunity, please contact Melanie Meyers.
